The Boy Who Dared

Here is the first thought to Blog about:
In your opinion, what is FREEDOM? What does it mean to be free? Do you think that you have freedom? What would it be like to live without freedom? How do your ideas of freedom relate to The Boy Who Dared?

Write as much or as little as you want, but try to answer the question. There is no right or wrong answer, only what you think.

ABAK1 - Freedom to me means that I have the choice to live without fear. I should not be afraid for my life and should have the right to do what I want in peace. I should also not take away someone else's freedom. If I have freedom, then I have the right to express myself how I want to and not be afraid to do it.

Anonymous said...

Mshe7 - freedom is to have your inalienable rights, or rights that can not be taken away. Freedom also means to be able to think and feel how you want

Anonymous said...

AMAK6 - freedom means to me that we don't need a person telling us what to do today we do it as freely as possible and try our best. I truely don't think we have as much freedom that the United States says we do. The U.S wants to keep us safe but if you look at it at a different way their going though our stuff and if we say the wrong thing they come and get us and take us away. This really reminds me of Hitler's rise of the Nazi's.

Anonymous said...

CKLE4 - Freedom means you have the ability to do do certain things. For instance, you have the ability to speak your mind. You also have many other "freedoms." It really does not matter what other people think about anything you do. They really can't do anything about it.

Anonymous said...

DBUL5- Freedom to me is the way i live. without freedom i wouldnt be able to do anything, for example freedom of speech if you insult me and i dont have freedom of speech i cant say anything back to you but if you have freedom use it wisely and dont blow your chances on life oppurtunities

Anonymous said...

LLAW6 - Freedom is doing something without being judged to do so. To be free means you can do anything you want. I have freedom because nobody goes up to me and say you are not allowed to do this because your this. The book the Boy who dared has no freedom because the Germans are not allowed to believe or to speak out for what they believed in.

Anonymous said...

THin6- i think that freedom means that you have the right to make disisoins and not to be bossed around.i think that i have freedom because if i didn't have freedom we would not have the right to speek.

Anonymous said...

CBal5-
I think freedom is haveing the right to do what you want to do. To be free is to have nothing holding you back. I think i have some freedom becuase i cn speek my mind and the reason i dont have some is becuase my parents also make some desicions for me like what i'm haveing t eat or something like that. A life without freedom would be unfair. You could'nt like pick out what ever you wanted to wear or stuff like that.

TPRI- freedom means u ca do what u chose and no1 tells u other wiz freedom is some thig that u have that u get and should not be taken from you

franch toast (in side joke, hey baker)

Anonymous said...

EKER4 id like to comment on how mr. baker says freedom means to live with out fear. with freedom also comes a lot of responsibility. Our people who are over fighting over in iraq afganistan and such sacrafice so much for their freedom and ours. there freedom may come with a little fear but freedom is worth the risk. (:

Anonymous said...

DALO5 - I think that freedom means to be able to do anything you want to accept harming another human, hurting yourself. Freedom also means that if people of authority to you make a law you should follow it. If the authority is corrupt then you should go to other people and try to petition.

Anonymous said...

kchr4, to me freedom is the right to speak, it also means to have the right to say or tell people the way you feel about things that are happening.

Anonymous said...

kwig6- to me there is no way to be completly free. cuz your never completely free you will always worry about something orsomeone may not like you. i believe that the only way to be free is in death cuz when your dead you nothing to worry about. though different people define freedom differently. like from the book the boy who dared when he died he was free he died with no regrets that is true freedom.

Anonymous said...

$jSCH4$ I THINK FREEDOM MEANS THAT YU ARE FREE TO SAY AND THINK AND DO WAT YOU WANT. LIKE IF I WANTED TO GO JUMP OF A BUIDING WITH A PARACHUTE. THAT IS ME BEING FREE CAUSE NO ONE HAS TO STOP ME OR CONTROLL ME.

Anonymous said...

JKEE5 - freedom to me means to be able to do things without someone telling you, you can't do that or your too young to do that, or your not aloud to do that. freedom means your aloud to do whatever you please as long as your not hurting others, or harming yourself, freedom is when you are free & your able to do what you want, when you want, how you want.
even though kids under 18 are not aloud yo vote, thats kinda takintg our freedom cause we have the right to vote and pick someone to be president, cause their gonna be ours too, so dont you think that we should be able to choose whether we like that president or not?
In school we have barely any freedom, walk on the right side of the hall ? no talking, ever? were not aloud to stand outside and talk to our friends when were waitin for our bus, then how do you expect us to be quiet in school ? we have no time, schools suppose to be somewhere, where you wanna be and most kids dont wannt be here because we have no freedom. Thats what i think freedom is.

Anonymous said...

JKEE5 - this is a responce to ABAK1 but what if you have the religion that afends someones? like killing things like, animals is part of your religion should you have the freedom to do that in peace?

Anonymous said...

BFRA6 - In my opinion, I think freedom means to have the right to do something. Yes, i do believe i have freedom because i have the right of speech, be educated, say what i would wanna say, expression, religion, etc. Without Freedom, i believe that it would be very hard to live because i wouldnt like people telling me what to do. Also, it wouldn't be fair because i am an individual who deserves a chance and thats why i have my life. Since i have freedom, i wouldnt take someone elses away because i have my own freedom and Dont need someone elses. Its their time to shine!

Anonymous said...

djoh7-freedom means that u can walk.,write, talk, play, eat, sleep and use the rest room when u want. ya digg

Anonymous said...

mgre5... freedom is being able to do what you want when you want so i personally think we are not a free nation. ya digg?

Alex Baker said...

ABAK1 - There are many great responses here so far. To comment on some of your ideas: JKEE5 asked "what if you have a religion that offends someone..." This is a good point. Since all religions talk about peace and co-existence, then why are there so many wars about religion? Freedom is something that we have to fight for, but the idea of freedom means to many of you that we can live in peace. Any thoughts on that?

Anonymous said...

EGre4-freedom means to be able to do what you want and be free and say what you want to say.

Anonymous said...

VNGU4 - i think freedom means that you can do anything you want and dont have to be scare. also that theres no one there that can stop you from doing it. i dont have full freedom now becuase for example:i cant carry a gun and walk around and not get in trouble for it. thats part of the rule but its also freedom. i cant do everything i want so i dont have freedom at the time!

Anonymous said...

CKLE4 - I like what EKER4 had to say about he soldiers in Afganistan and Iraq. I'm sure that anybody that wanted their own or their family's freedom bad enough would do anything to get it. That does include fighting for it. That's why we should appreciate the soldiers a liitle bit more. They ave done so much for everybody in the United States.

Anonymous said...

TOve6-I think that freedom means to be able to do whatever you feel and to be able to do that certain thing how you want to do it. Yes, i do believe i have freedom because i'm basically allowed to speak freely i have freedom of religion etc..If i didn't have freedom it would be very unfair because someone shouldn't have to make my descions for me...my ideas relate to the boy who dared because back when Jews weren't treated fair they didnt have freedom.. and with out freedom today some people would get treated just like the Jews did...

Anonymous said...

JNAG6 - I think freedom means to do pretty much whatever you want to do. So if you think about it, no goverenment will allow complete freedom. If some wacko wants to steal $100,000 or something, he does not have the freedom to get away with it. He will be sent to court to be sentenced to jail. He just can't say, "Hey guard, I'm bored, let me out" and it's going to happen. When you go to jail you lose your freedoms to getting out unless you pay bail

Anonymous said...

ohow5- i think that FREEDOM is when your not held back by anything. I think it means that nothing is stoping you from doing what you want. I dont think that i have freedom. i think that because im a child im not able to do thing that i want to do. Although I have more freedom that people did in the past i still think that how are world is today, my life isn't free. If i didnt have freedom it would feel like it does now. I go to school, go straight home, and do what my mother orders me to do, witch would be cleaning or getting her something she need. Like her own personal maid. No i am not free. Though i want to be i wont be until i get older and i am able to move out and start a life. To have freedom to me is to do what i want to do not what others want me to do.

Anonymous said...

tpoc5-freedom means to me that i can do whatever i want when i want.i also thimk it means that you can do whatever without getting in to trouble.

Anonymous said...

klee5 i think freedom is when you have the right to do anything that you want to do.

i think that i do have freedom because i get to do things like walk to the store or get to catch the bus anywhere i want to go.

if i didn't have freedom it would be different because we all will be still fighting for our freedom to do want we want to do like catch the bus together and don't be mean do each other and we will have to fight again but we are together now but who says it's still happening.

Anonymous said...

ohow5- i disagree with dalo5. I think that freedom is to have complete control over what you do. its not right that people kill themselfs or harm anyoneone eles in anyother time and or matter. THeres never a good enough reson to take ANY life but free will is free will. Im not saying that its right, im saying people live in america because were a free country, but what does that realy mean? is freedom good or bad? what does freedom do? does it change what people think? does it change what rights they have?

Anonymous said...

KKRZ7- To me freedom means to do what you please aslong as you are not hurting others. You should be able to do what you want when you want. Us as kids don't get much freedom at all. We have to live under the rules of every one else. We have absolutly no freedom in school. The only freedom we have is in lunch. Not even, we have to get directed in the lunch line. What do you guys think we are two, I mean come on. You can at least let us do that our self. I get how you guys are trying to protect us and make sure we are safe but come on. That is what I think freedom is.

Anonymous said...

mwill5 - to have freedom means to be able to do what you want with out restrictions. I think we have freedom to an extent. Like in school i don't think we do. We can't wear what we want, say what we want, do what we want. Everything is planed out.

Anonymous said...

DGRIF4- In my opinion, I think freedom to me means the idea of being free, and without freedom i wouldnt be able to do anything . There are only four Freedoms and they are goals famously articulated by United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt in the State of the Union Address he delivered to the United States Congress. First you have freedom of speech and expression then you have Freedom of religion, Freedom from what, Freedom from fear. You have liberty the freedom to act or believe without being stopped by unnecessary force, is generally considered in modern time. Thank-you.

Anonymous said...

DGRIF4- I would like to comment on EKER4 yes i really argee with you when you said freedom come's with alot of responabilty. It does but it also come with courage, bravely,Love. I said courage because courage means to the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, etc., without fear;. Next you have Bravely and that meansbold, intrepid, daring, dauntless, heroic. Last you have Love and that is to have love or affection for something. So to sum it up you have to have courage like martin luther king and bravely like the boys on "The Boy Who Dared". Also you gotta love freedom because not everyone has freedom thank God that we have it so we gotta love it but yea like i said you gotta have responabilty.

Anonymous said...

JHAN7- freedom means you wont be judged for any reason . freedom means you can have freedom of speach ,and your voice can be heard and no one will judge. also freedom means that no one will take away your basic human rights.

Anonymous said...

JCAL7~ I think that freedom means to have the right to do anything. If your free then you can do whatever you want, probably not the best thing. The reason why is because tons of people would do things that their not supposed to do. I really don't think...NO! I know that we don't have much freedom in school. Yea it's school, but come on now!? You expect people to be quiet 24/7, walk to the right in the hallway, not to sign out passes in small group(thats what small group is for, to go to ur teachers and get help) but nope, ur not aloud!! Our school is like a Jail, you can't do anything without getting talked to. Can't we be trusted to sign out passes!? or to go to the bathroom without a teacher standing/sitting outside the door...thats PATHETIC! If we didnt have freedom, life would be A LOT harder. You would have to do what people tell you to do, so you basicly would have no life...ur life is being run by other people.I don't think that people would take that well. I somewhat dont like the freedom that we have now so I dont think i would be able to live without any freedom.

Anonymous said...

Responce to KWIG6~ I really like what your thought was, after seeing what you wrote it made me think differently. That's very true, ur not totally completly free until ur dead. It also relates very well to the book because of the infinity sign and he talks about floating and being by god.

Eper5-
freedom is being allowed to do what you want to do through out your life. because of freedoms and restriction it forms who you are and will be.freedoms are a gift and if we abuse them they will be taken away. then who will you be...

Anonymous said...

Eper5-
referring to what ABAK1 said in response to JKEE5.even though many people do have conflicts with other religions, many don't. And unfortunatly there are conflicts with in what religions say. ex... one says to respect all and everything, the other says its o.k. to kill anyone in any other religion. how wouuld a problem like that get resolved. and still not all religions have the freedoms of other religions.

Anonymous said...

Dalo5 - I want to comment on jkee5s comment about children not being allowed to vote is taking away our freedom. i disagree because all the people who made that law are trying to protect kids and not get them into politics. Another reason kids should not be allowed to vote is out brains are not fully developed yet. When you are 4 years old you don't know how to spell your name and you want them to vote. When you are in middle school you do not know what you want to do in life how will you know what politic to pick. Laws are set in place to keep people safe not to take away freedom. Some laws are unfair. Some laws the government should not make. If the people make a move on the law right away you can have more freedom.

i do agree with the comments Jkee5 makes about school we should have free time to talk sometimes. Mr. Bridges should not put yellow lines down he could have just told people to walk on the right side of the hall.

Anonymous said...

Sstro4- To me freedom is to do what you want without asking. I don't have freedom because in school we have rules that we have to follow or else we get in trouble. If people had freedom they wouldn't go to jail or fined because they kill someone or do/sell drugs. Also if we had freedom, Kids could drive at any age they wanted. If the world had freedom maybe there would be more wars or maybe less it depends. If we didn't have freedom things could be taken away from us. We would have more rules and worse punishments if we didn't follow them. This situation is like the book "The Boy who Dared."

Alex Baker said...

abak1 - Who posted the "response to kwig7 ??? there is no name but it is a good comment.

I also like what Kkrz7 and Jcal7 said about freedom in school. What do you think about that?

Alex Baker said...

Abak1 - In response to Eper5: I like your question, but most religions are fundamentally the same. They all preach peace and love, however people can interpret messages differently. What if one person believes they are following their religion and another has different ideas on how to follow and defend their own religion?

Anonymous said...

SCOT7- Freedom to me means being able to have a choice at what you want to have in life. Having freedom can help you because you can choose the path you want to take in life. In my opinion, having freedom taking away is basicly not having a life.

TGra7- Freedom is doing what you want to do whenever you feel like it. In prison you don't that luxury. Freedom doesn't always come free though. Thats why we have soldiers like my two uncles in Iraq and Afghanistan today.

Anonymous said...

KCAR5- I think you can be free but not all the way free because you still hae to fear for your life. But you ave freedom when you want to go somewhere or buy somthing. You also have freedom when you want to speak out loud or tell sombody something.

Anonymous said...

Jcle6-I Think Freedom Means To Have The Right To Be Free And To Be Able To Express Your Opnion And Religion. Being Free Is To Be Able To Have Your Own Individual Thoughts And Speak Freely Upon What You Feel. When You Have Freedom Your Rights Can Not Be Taken Away From You Unless You Break The Law

Anonymous said...

drob6 - I think freedom means to have a right to do anything you want. It means that you are not told what to do or what to say. You can be anyone or work anywhere, but you cant always have whatever you want, just because the fact is one human being cant get everything and leave none there. Freedom means to have power! I think freedom is important because you dont want to live your life by someone elses rules. That is only exceptional when you are a child and cant speak for yourself so your mom or dad has to.

Anonymous said...

kchr4, i dont agree with ckle4 because you dont have the right for somethings you have the right for all things, and you also have the right to tell people what they dont want to hear.

jwei4- freedom to me is to do what you want without messing up other peoples freedom. freedom is where you are not control by someone else. freedom is that you can do what you want to do and when you want to do it.

tpoc5-in response to kkrz7 and jcal7 i think we should have freedom in school. It would be a lot better, you would be able to chew gum or do other stuff without getting into trouble. You would even be able to bring your mp3,i pod,and cd player into school.

Anonymous said...

TGra7- I agree at what JCAL7 said about people monitoring us 24/7, it gets really annoying have teachers around every corner. That i think takes away our freedom. I can't believe that they don't trust us.Ok,Maybe some kids are
"trouble-makers" but we are only in 8th grade!

Anonymous said...

Jrob2- freedom means to have the rights that every other citzen has. Without freedom someone would control you for the rest your life. I dnt think that everybody has the right to freedom i think they have a chance at freedom and if they mess up then their freedom will be taken away. EX:( If you commit a crime then your freedom is taken away when you go to jail)

Anonymous said...

MLOC6- Freedom is civil rights or the peoples rights. Even though its hard to stand up for whats right, freedom does compare. For example, the Holocaust is a perfect example of freedom. During the holocaust, the german's didn't do anything about what was happening, even though some people thought or knew it was wroung.

Anonymous said...

Svan7- Kwig6, what you said about freedom is true....... but does everything end in death? Than again...... is there an end? Does everything go on for infinity?

Anonymous said...

Amor6 - Freedom means that someone can live without their rights forcefully taken away. To be free, means you can live without anyone telling you how to live. Today, we have freedom because we have rights that allow us to have our own opinion. To live without freedom is to live under someone's orders and control. Helmuth in The Boy Who Dared didn't have freedom because his rights were taken away by the Nazis and he chose to fight for his freedom and the freedom of all Germans. We both have the same ideas of freedom because we both believed that we should have our own ideas and not allow someone else to tell us what is right and wrong.

Anonymous said...

Dbul5- in response to what eper5said yea i agree we have freedom right now but if you do something stupid like sell drugs or DWI for example will put you in jail for years. When your in the cops house your the fool not them!

~JGLO5~ I agree with jkee5 that is what freedom means and we should be able to vote for are president becasue that person will be ares to so what if we dont like him/her and they screw up its not are fault its the peoples who vote!!!!

Also,

I think that freedom is the right to do what you want and not to be forced to live a sertin way or be the same religon. Like in the book "The Boy Who Dared." Hitler only wanted real German people and not Jews or any other religion.

Finally, are school has no freedom but when i was in 5th grade the teachers said that middle school had alot of freedom but it doesnt!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

TGra7- Response to EKER4-
Right now i have two uncles in Iraq. I worry about them every day. Every day they risk their lives for us to be free. That goes to show that gaining freedom is a very dangerous, but Very, Very, important.

Anonymous said...

Dbul5- in response to the people who said freedom in school i forgot who said it sorry but thanks for bringing that up. I think freedom in school is lower then freedom with friends and outside of school. In School you always always have to do stuff that will get you further in life and in outside life to. Outside school you get further in life to but teachers need to understand that.

freedom is to do what you want in life. you dont need anyone to tell you what to do. i think i have freedom because i can say what im thinkinng at anytime.

Anonymous said...

kfro4- freedom means that you can do anything you want. well, almost anything. like if you wanted to kill somebody, well you can do it but you'll get in trouble. i think that sometimes people abuse freedom but doing stupid acts. also, freedom means you can think what you want, talk how you want, feel how you want, dress how you want, believe what you want and all that good stuff with out anybody telling you you're wrong. sometimes people confuse freedom with opinion. like if somebody has an opinion about what you have to say, it's different then them having freedom to say what they feel. how exactly? well, you tell me(;

Anonymous said...

npar5 i think freedom is when you have your own rights! also when nobody can take your rights away.you also have your own way of expressing your self by having freedom. if we didnt have freedom then i dont knw what america would be like.

ABOC7-freedom means having to choose the way you live your life!your own way to express your self and do what you want to do in your own unique way.in the book the boy who dared there is no freedom in germany because hitler banned alot of things and told people what they could or could not do!they had no freedom!

i would like to comment on what jcal7 had to say about school passes. i totally agree with you girl, it is pathetic. i think it's lame we can't go anywhere during small group, and it's also lame having a teacher sit outside the bathroom doors.
like ew who wants to listen to people peeing?! .. i thought we had freedom, but our school seems to be taking it away bit by bit. lines on the hall, no passes, teachers listening to you pee, no backless shoes, no gum (even though people ALWAYS have gum..) what's next? uniforms? girls have to wear their hair up? guys have to cut their hair? seriously, this is pathetic. if everybody is supposed to have all this freedom, then why have so many restrictions on just about EVERYTHING. i mean i get some of the stuff, but lately the rules seem to be just because. honestly, it's really, really, REALLY LAMEEEEEEEEEEEE ! where's our freedom going now?

comment back on what you think? thankss.

EKER4 - I am a little sick of people relating freedom to our school. Cnt all u people just get over the fact that our school is not bad. Some things in are school go overboard but its not like their taking away are freedom. In response to jcal the people sitting outside of the doorof the restroom are there because some stupid kid had to go and write graffiti so dont say are school taking away our freedoms. I am sick and tired of people saying are school is a bad place when really its nutthin more then our fellow classmates who ruin it for themselves.

SO STOP SAYIN ARE SCHOOL IS A FREEDOMLESS PLACE

Anonymous said...

Jlew7-Freedom is to have rights that can but shouldn't be taken away from you. Freedom means being able to do things you like or being able to speak and think what you feel no matter how good or bad it is. Its your own opinion and no one should try to take away how you feel. No i personally do not think i have freedom, its like in school you want to be able to be free because your with your friends and want to work freely but you cant because the teachers are so strict about being quiet while your working. They also don't let us go anywhere during small groups and it gives us a disadvantage because we cant get anything done expecually if your absent or if you leave early for something you needed to do or for something thats important to you. We need freedom in small groups because from work we don't have handed in we get zeros because we can't leave. To live without freedom would be like living in a box you couldnt get out of. Most people wouldnt say anything about it either because most people arent leaders, they follow the example others give just like Mr Bridges expects the 8th graders to set an example for the 6th and 7th graders.

EKER4 Id like to say sumthin about mwill5 s comment. I understand that in school we are told what to do and everything is planned out. But come on its how schools been since pre k. And NEWSFLASH the REAL WORLD isnt all fun and games. And im sick of are school bein critiziced.

DGRI4-Ok I listen to all the wonderfull and good comments but I have a question. Ok here it go Why in school we dont have freedom to do anything we want and say what we wanna say. ABAK1 said on March 16,2009-I should also not take away someone else's freedom. If that's so then why to our teachers and principal take that away from us or anybody thatz older. I really wanna know an answer because im intersted in hearing from everyone.

Anonymous said...

Freedom means to me when you are able to do something you are allowed to do because of the law. Like in school we have to walk on the right side of the hallway when we should walk where we want. Or like its a freedom of speech but we cant talk when we want to in school

Anonymous said...

BGAI5 - freedom to me means that you can do what you think is the right thing to do without being punished. freedom is what everyone should have yet in todays world even though we think we have it we dont. true freedom comes with out all these laws that protect us but they also enslave us. true freedom means that if you think its right to kill someone to stop them from harming you or your family you can and nothing will happen but we all know that if you kill someone you will be prosecuted. we in todays society will never be able to have true freedom because people are to scared to live a free life and not be controlled by unfair laws.

Anonymous said...

BGAI5 - this a quote from one of my favorite books and i think it fits perfectly with this question so im just gonna post it so you can all read it.
"Freedon is a double-edged ideal, because true freedom comes without the protection of laws that also enslave us by defining us - female, male; Christian, Islamic; good, evil. All at the whim of a frail minority." - the book is Impulse by Ellen Hopkins
in my mind she is one of the best authors ever!

Anonymous said...

MBRO5 - my opinion on freedom is were someone does not have to move around in fear, were someone isn't trapped and has the right to speak there mind by saying or writing what ever you wont.you shouldn't be pinalized for "thinking" the wrong things or getting out of line.your voice is power and if you take that away then you have nothing to defend your self or say what you think is right.

Anonymous said...

CKLE4- This is in response to what kchr4 said about my first blog. You don't have the right to "ALL" freedoms like I said in my first blog. For example, if some guy wanted to pull out a gun and kill someone, does he have the right to do that? Not really. Say there was a police officer there that saw him just about ready to kill that person. I can assure that he would not let that happen to any innocent civillian. There is not a single law that was passed that said that it was alright to kill someone. However, there are laws that say you can not kill a person. If so, you will have to pay the consequnces. Also, when the person goes to court and or jail, he losses some of his freedoms because the police and judges don't think that person deserves them.

MBRO5 - I think that feedom isnt free at all. There is a price many people have paid for what we call freedom, and we are not done yet. With freedom comes responsibility. The responsibility to do what is right. Just because you can say anything you might think, does'nt make it right.

i think freedom is when you can do what you want when you want. i think tht i have both freedom and i dont freedom. because have freedom to go any where but i dont have freedom to go almost anywhere like bars, clubs, etc. thats why i think i do and dont have freedom cause kids or teens cant do somethings and thhats not freedom

Anonymous said...

adrc7 -What freedom mean's to me is to have your own rights about what you do. Like especially when you get to be an adult and when you have to make BIG DECISIONS. YES I think I have freedom because sometimes I am making my own BIG DECISIONS, like if my friend or someone ask's to come to the store or somewhere and steal for them so that they don't get caught, but my answer to that will be NO and i'll say to them why don't you just go and ask your parents for some money so no one get's caught. What it would feel like to live without freedom is you wouldn'tbe making your own choices about thing because you would have someone answer them for you, and you would be getting bossed around by people that don't even know you.

HLAB4- To me i think freedom is being able to have freedom expression and speech along with your own opinion. Though under a circumstance being about to murder someone because you have freedom is not right. It's having sense to do the right things and if you can not follow that it should be taken away. Though being able to say what you want that does not offend anyone is using your freedom appropriately. Though the government does have rules on limiting freedom to keep the country in balance. People have the freedom to go around and kill people but with every freedom there is a consequence for your actions.

Anonymous said...

I think freedom is being able to marry who ever you want in any state and not being looked differently because of it. Also to live my life the way I want to, and not have to worry if I’m going to get into trouble because of it. Also not having to obey everyone orders all the time. I think freedom is also the right to talk on the phone without the dang government listening. Freedom is also the right to pray were ever I please without people burning down my church or something. Without freedom people would not have a life. They would be living someone else’s. Freedom comes with responsibility though because you cant kill someone with out having a consequence. With freedom there is still rules like people bossing you around that you must follow.

Mwal7- i believe that freedom means that u can do what u want when u want 2.It also means that we have the right 2 speech and our ways of expression threw art + writing is a type of freedom.Freedom is also being able have choice in what u read + what u believe in.

Freedom id the right to do what youu want.
An example is having a particular thought or believe.
If someone tells you this thought or believe is wrong they are trying to take away your freedom.
Freedom is also a sense of power.
If someone can take that from youu they are taking your power.
Power is valuable so you should cherish it, and use it for good.

~gFrA~ I think freedom means that you have an limited choice to doing something. For examples when you use your freedom of speech people that speek out are not cussing in there speeches. Also freedom is our power to do what we want. There are also many things you can use freedon for. If there was no freedom the world be like a prison and we would have to do everything the same.

CKLE4- In responce to EKER4. You are right about the freedoms in our school. When you think about it, all that they're doing is having somebody sit outside the bathroom. Big deal! I could see if there was someone inside the bathroom. That would be a different story. You still have your privacy even if someone is sitting outside the bathroom.

Mgre5 - I think that freedom means that you have your own rights and you can think for yourself. its not like a prison when someone have to speak for you or have to make decisions for you like your a slave.

~gFra~ I would like to make a comment on EKER4.EKER4 - (I am a little sick of people relating freedom to our school.) I agree with Eker4 for a number of reasons. One reason is that many people take advantage of the school so that is why we are treated like babies. Also a number of kids talk to teachers like there friends. Kids all around school wonder why Mr. Briges has all these dumb rules. Half the kids act like four year olds and act like the school revoles around them. So if you really want the truth just look in the halls. Maybe just look at your friends for ten minutes in lunch. All the yelling and screaming, that is why the students can not have the luxury of being treated like adults.

Thanks Eker4 for your input. I agree with you 100 percent.

~Gfra~ I would like to make another comment on Eker4. The fact that you talk about the school and what its really about makes this blog interesting.

SO THANKS EKER4 FOR MAKING THE CHATS FUN AND INTERESTING

TGra7- Response to tpoc5-
It gets me mad when they don't let us have gum. how come they don't let us have gum, something as igsingnificant as a piece of gum. It's sort of like in "The Boy Who Dared" how no one can have a say in anything. The Nazis murdered millions of people just by a small igsignificant thought. those words couldn't actually hurt sumbody, they were afraid of people changing other peoples ideals. How does gum hurt anybody! ALL IT IS IS A SINGLE PIECE OF GUM!!!!( But very good). Teachers need to cool down yo!

Anonymous said...

CKLE- I know that TGRA7 posted a blog about the school not allowing gum. There is one main reason that the teachers don't want gum. It's where the students put the gum. Not the fact that they chew it. If the students had the respect to put the gum in the garbage can, the teachers would give them the "FREEDOM" to chew it. Hey, I know people will disagree with me, but I'm just tryin' to prove a point.

rlut6 - to me fredom means having your own job, your own life etc. If we didnt have freedom, i would hate life. I wouldnt be able to do what you really want to do. Freedom also means that you can pick what you want to be or do but you have to follow the rules or laws of our country. If i broke the law, say i killed someone, you would be takin away someones elses freedom and thats wrong. everyone has the right to freedom.

jmac6-i think freedom means to have the right to do anything you want and have the right to say what you want

ASMI4 - to AMAK6- yes freedom is what you say but we do need a person to guide us through. if oone is telling us wht we can and cant do then we will have no order. if someone is telling us what to do then yes will might have a few problems but not as many as if we didnt..

ksmi7 - i think freedom is live life 2 the fullest and in our school there is no freedom

Dbul5- i agree with Tgra7. Tgra7 is right in war you dont have luxury. Trust me i know my great grandpa was a prisoner of war. Then he was rescued and he told my mom im glad to see the shining seas of glory,You'll understand that later in life

Dpou5 I think the boy who dared is a really good book. I stand up to the fact that Helmuth wants to speak up and knows what Hitler is doing is wrong. I dont understand how Hitler could fell hate so deeply to Jews. They are still Germans and did nothing to Hitler.

Anonymous said...

JKAL4- i think freedom is when you can have rights. those right can be taken awway. its like if your mom gives you a curfew of 10:00 and you stay out till 2:00 in the morning.obviously shes gunnatake away that right and give you an earlier curfew.

ASMI4 - i like what mr. baker said. it is true. i should be able to live with out fearbut we all do live with it.and no you shouldnot be able to take away someone elses rights

MPre6 Freedom is your own privacy. Freedom is what you think is free like going outside. Yes I have freedom I could pretty much go outside or go anywhere like a store. I could walk to astore if I tell one of my parents. If I had no freedom then I would really be mad and I will Fight the Government or get people to help me protest. My freedom is nothing like The Boy Who Dared but the laws are some what simialar.

I think your right, we kinda do have limited freedoms in school. Any time you want to joke around with someone, u have to look both ways!!

jjoh4 my opinion on freedom is to have a say in what you what you what to do. i do think i have freedom. freedom means to me to dowhat you want to do.

HWIS5 - FReedom to me is that you have the choice to speak your mind or have a opinion on things. If i didn't have freedom i think i would not be happy becouse i like to give my opionon on things so people can maybe get a diffrent view on things. I think i have ffreedom but like not like a as much freedom as other people. The legal age for voting is 18 ,i think they should make it a little younger. I dont think kids my age should vote it would be nice but i don't think kids my age should vote becuse alot of kids my age won't really take it serioously but then again alot of kids my age would. Besides the voting thing i think i have alot of freedom and i think more kids my age should take advantage of it in a good way.

The freedoms that I like are outside or activities that I like. Freedoms that I hate is that the Government can stalk you.

Anonymous said...

JNAG6 in response to DWill5-

Ya know, your right. We, as children, don't have many of the rights as adults do. We don't get to drive or any thing. I personally think I'm mature (and tall :) ) enough to drive.

MMOH7-Freedom means your ability to do something without being told to do it.Every president in the world has more freedom than the lower class people.Like if a king leads his army into war he has the freedom to cammand them to protect him, so if they want freedom they wouldnt necessarly need a leader, but they still have to obey him if they want freedom. In THE BOY WHO DARED Helmuth didnt have any freedom because he was in a cell. The only freedom he had was sleeping and eating in the cell.

Anonymous said...

MHEN7- Freedom is like when you live your life without people telling you how to live it. You make your own choices and it also means hat you have the rite to do whatever you want.

jmaz4 - I disagree with jkee5 on the kid's voting matter. Kids our age don't have the knowledge of politics, nor enough knowledge of polictics to be able to choose which campaign they side with. Most kids will vote whoever the majority of kids want. If kids had the right to vote in this past election Obama would've won by more votes because he's black and kids would want a black president. Only about 20% of the kid population would have looked into the proposals from each canidate. Regarding rights an freedom, I think freedom means having your rights and having the expecations of being responsible. In school, we do not have many rights. We have to walk on the right kid of the hall and it is not right, I literally even walk on the right side of the hall in my house! I think that is not necessary, neither is the bathroom sign-out, NOR the no energy drinks rule. I also think our bag and purse freedom is taken away. We have NEVER had a school shooting so there isn't a point in taking the purses away.

tmor6- I THINK THAT FREEDOM IS WHEN YOU ARE ABLE TO HAVE THE RIGHT TO DO WHAT YOU WANT TO DO BUT STILL FOLLOW THE LAW. FREEDOM HAS DIFFERENT MEANINGS. TO MY PARENTS YOU HAVE FREEDOOM WHEN YOUR GROWN. ALSO I THINK THAT WHEN YOUR A KID YOU REALY DONT HAVE FREEDOM BECAUSE YOU CAN ONLY SAY CERTAIN THING AROUND CERTAIN PEOPLE. LIKE YOU CANT SWEAR IN FRONT OF YOUR PARENTS OR YOU WOULD GET INTO TROUBLE. THAT LIKE THE HOLUCUST YOU COULD ONLY SAY CERTAIN THINGS AROUND CERTAIN PEOPLE. IF YOU SAID SOMETHING BAD YOU WOULD GET INTO TROUBLE.

FLAT7 - I think freedom is when you get to do the legal things you can. you should not be told not to speak, or stand up for what you believe in, long as its legal. Freedom to me is not having to walk on the right side of the hallway in my school of course, but thats only one thing in the whole world.

KKRZ7- I would like to respond to JCAL7. I really get the whole school thing you are talking about. Were kids in school, not kids in the miltary. We need to be able to talk and socialize. Kids are wild and loud. Thats what were best at.

CKLE4- I'd like to comment about EKER4 comments about our school and our freedoms. Alright, EKER4 is right. Of course our school is gonna tell us what to do. I mean what did you expect, IT'S A SCHOOL! The school isn't just gonna let us do whatever we want. GET REAL. Ya gotta think before you post a comment that involves something else that's negative about the school. We are able to do whatever we want outside of school, but when it comes to in school, the teachers are gonna have to watch over the students because, well, that's their job!

(JSCH4) freedom means a lot in different things. In school we have don't have freedom. like in small group we have to stay in are classes. THat means we can't go get help with are other classes. out of school there is freedom and no freedom. Like we have to follow all this laws. But also we could do a lot of stuff also

ABAK1 - We have had a great number of excellent responses on the site so far. I would like to leave it off with something MMOH7 said. He said "Freedom means your ability to do something without being told to do it.Every president in the world has more freedom than the lower class people.Like if a king leads his army into war he has the freedom to cammand them to protect him, so if they want freedom they wouldnt necessarly need a leader, but they still have to obey him if they want freedom. In THE BOY WHO DARED Helmuth didnt have any freedom because he was in a cell. The only freedom he had was sleeping and eating in the cell." This is an interesting thought and sums up everything we have talked about so far. Nice Job! Keep an eye out for the next blog entry.

I think it is a privilege to have freedom. Just as easy as it is given to you, it can be taken away. But i feel that you must do something such as commit a crime, disobey your parents, abuse your freedom in anyway, then it can be revoked. Not just someone taking away all of your freedom because they feel like it!
Life without freedom would be very dull and pointless, in my opinion.
